Oracle Databases are widely known for their security, speed, and portability. We see Oracle Databases being used in every field including schooling, enterprise, and banking sectors. It also covers up grid computing sector where several computer systems are connected to a single node or main server to share the resources of each other.
Oracle comes in several versions. The newest one is Oracle Database 12c. The installation of Oracle Database requires time and space because it is quite hefty in size.
After installing the Oracle, you need to unlock oracle database account and that’s what we are going to do in this article.
Most of the oracle people use a traditional username and password to unlock oracle database account i.e scott (username) and tiger (password).
Don’t know the reason behind it! 😛

This method is compatible for 10g, 11g, and 12c versions.
After installation, Press Windows + R to open the RUN command. Enter sqlplus to open the database interface. Despite entering scott as username.

New password: tiger; Retype password: tiger;
There you go, you have successfully unlocked Oracle Database account.
It’s time to write some queries. Open your SQL interface by typing sqlplus in run command.
Note: One thing I would like to mention and clarify you that there are two methods to log into sqlplus.
- You can write your username and password in the username field with the forward slash separation.
scott as your username/tiger as your password
- The second one is a little bit tricky for most of the users. As they get confused. In this one, you can enter your username and password separately. But users get mystify when they come to know that the password is not showing. So there is nothing to get trouble, your password is being entered while your entering it but it is hidden due to Oracle security policies.Like in the following picture, The password field is blank. But actually, it is not. I entered my password that is tiger in given field.
